Four persons died after a girder-laden truck hit a two-wheeler and then overturned on Bangalore-Salem NH in Dharmapuri on Wednesday.

Police said J Selvam, the driver of Tiruchy-bound truck from Dharmapuri lost control resulting in the mishap. While nearing Thoppur, the driver lost control and hit a two-wheeler before crashing into the median and overturning on the NH.
In the impact, Selvam and cleaner K Thangaraj, 55 from Vazhapadi besides the rider K Chinnavan, 55 and M Ariya Goundar, 60, both Dharmapuri residents were killed on the spot. Thoppur police rushed to the spot, but managed to retrieve only the bodies of the deceased persons after hours of struggle.
“Both the two-wheeler riders were crushed beneath the overturned truck and their death was known only when the truck was removed,” said a cop. The bodies of the deceased persons were sent to Dharmapuri GH for postmortem.
The Thoppur police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
