By downloading the monitoring app, ‘Kovai Care’, the public can know if they are in a safe zone or in a containment area.

All details of the containment areas have been fed into the app to alert the public and ensure their safety. Containment zones are areas where one or more COVID-19 positive cases were reported. These areas were barricaded to prevent people from moving out and also disallow others from entering these areas. The app also has a facility to track people going out of containment zones in violation.

“If someone leaves the containment zone, an alert will be generated informing the person of his violation. Also, a message will be sent to the team involved in monitoring work. So immediately, the person would be called and ensure that they do not cause a potential risk to others,” said a Corporation official.

Upon downloading the app, it has to be fed with some personal information and regarding their health scenario. The app, inaugurated by Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani, also has some general information like pharmacy, hospital and toilets in a locality.

Earlier S P Velumani said that COVID-19 has been brought under control in the district. “As the number of COVID-19 cases has come down, there is no need for a total lock down in the district,” he said after reviewing the COVID-19 situation. The COVID-19 cases, which spiked to over 100 cases over the last two days, has come down to 52 new infections on Thursday in Coimbatore. It was 188 on Tuesday and 104 on Wednesday.

Of the total 1644 infections, there are 969 active COVID-19 cases and 256 persons were discharged after treatment on a single day on Thursday.
