DMK dist secys meet to discuss EB tariff issue today
The DMK has called for a meeting of its district secretaries, MPs and MLAs to discuss the alleged electricity tariff hike in the state. DMK president MK Stalin announced the meeting shortly after the Madras High Court dismissed a petition challenging the method applied by Tangedco to assess power consumption of household consumers during the lockdown.
Chennai
he meeting would be held through video call at 10 am on Thursday, July 16, a statement issued by the party said.
Stalin had appealed to the state to revert to the old (pre-COVID-19) assessment method and drop the ‘expensive’ new method. The DMK president had also asked the state government to offer tariff concessions to the domestic low tension and high tension MSMEs.
Formulate corona health policy
Later, in another statement, Stalin asked Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to make arrangements to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure uninterrupted treatment to people for other ailments. He also proposed an exclusive coronavirus health policy to control the spread.
Remarking that repeated denial of community spread even while the disease has spread in rural and urban centers alike would fail to convey the gravity of the situation to the people, Stalin asked the government to constitute an expert committee and take initiative based on the committee’s report.
Claiming that vigorous testing, contract tracing and treatment would only help bring down the fatality rate, Stalin attributed the fall in cases in Chennai to increased immunity of people and said the government must realise that the shutdown could only delay the spread. He wanted the state to chalk out an exclusive coronavirus medical policy and act on war footing.
