2 women killed in Sivaganga, jewels missing

Two women of a same family in Sivaganga were found dead in their house at a remote locality near Kalayarkovil on Tuesday morning. Since the jewels were missing, police suspect it to be a double murder for gain.

The victims have been identified as Sneha (28) and her mother-in-law Rajakumari (65). Sivaganga Town DSP P Abdul Gafoor said preliminary inquiries indicated that it could be murder for gain as jewels were missing from the house. Injuries were found near the left ear of Rajakumari, whose body was found in verandah, while Sneha was found dead inside a room.

The double murder came to light when neighbours rushed into the house after hearing the baby continuously crying in the morning.

Five special teams have been formed to nab the accused, the DSP said.

Kalayarkovil Inspector of Police C. Ilavarasu said the double murder could have committed between 2 am and 4 am. Totally, fifty-seven sovereigns were missing from the house.

Based on a complaint from Santhiyagu, a case has been registered under Sections 457, 380 and 302 of IPC.

Fingerprint experts examined the scene of crime and said to have lifted a print, sources said.

N M Mayilvahanan, DIG and V Va Kumar, SP (in-charge of Sivaganga also), Ramanathapuram also inspected the crime scene, sources said.
