Poorly maintained PHCs, cause for concern: Kamal

In a statement, he said that PHCs in rural Tamil Nadu don’t have proper infrastructure and inadequate health workers.

“The COVID-19 has started spreading to rural areas. the state government has turned a blind eye to rural areas. PHCs are in bad condition. There are no health workers in many PHCs. When the cities with modern hospitals struggle to handle COVID-19 cases, the government should consider what would happen to the PHCs if the coronavirus spread to the villages. Due to this, identifying coronavirus-infected patients will be difficult in villages,” said Kamal Haasan.

The actor-turned-political said that the state government should take serious steps to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in villages with the PHCs lacking proper infrastructure and they have to travel to the towns for treatment.

“It will be difficult to curb the spread once it goes out of control in the villages. If it started spreading in the villages, it will cause a huge impact on not only the economy and medical but on the basic needs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Haasan hit out at the education department officials forcing the corporation school teachers to work as ‘street warrior’ after the reports of teachers affected by the COVID-19.

“The government should initiate actions on the officials who are forcing the teachers to work as street warriors. At the same time, the teachers who are working willingly should be provided all the protective gears apart from the special salary,” he demanded.
