Officials said that the 15-year-old girl studying in Class 9 was a resident of Kalinjur.

As her mother planned to get her married, she objected to it and even took her mother to the police station some days ago.

Police advised her mother and others that the marriage should not happen and the where the police advised them that as the girl was below marriageable age it could land them in trouble.

But her mother and grandmother continued making marriage preparations and the boy belonged to Rathinam Palayam Hill village adjacent to Alangayam Pudur near Vaniyambadi.

On Thursday the girl was coaxed into accompanying her mother and grandmother to Alangyam Pudur where around 11.30 pm, they suddenly woke up the girl and told her that all had to go to Rathinam Palayam.

When she refused, the mother coaxed her in to accompanying them and the girl was shocked when on reaching the destination she found that all marriage arrangements were ready.

When she objected vociferously, the relatives tied her hands and feet and the youth tied the thali (nuptial knot).

Unable to comprehend what happened the girl bided her time and when she was left at a relatives’ house for the night, she escaped when all were asleep and came to Alangayam Pudur to take an auto on her way to Virudampattu police station.

She narrated to police all that happened to her before, during and after the forced wedding. Police immediately informed social welfare officials and the latter rushed to the police station, took charge of the girl and admitted her in the government rehabilitation home at Ariyur on the outskirts of Vellore.

Officials have lodged a complaint following which police are searching for the girl’s mother and the boy’s parents.
