Electricity Minister P Thangamani has already ordered an internal probe into the complaints of high EB charges, Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar told reporters on Wednesday, adding that the issue would be addressed based on the findings of the investigation.

When asked about scores of complaints being raised in this regard, the Minister said the government was alive on the concerns of the people and assured that the issue would be taken up with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

The matter had also reached the Madras High Court, with the petitioner charging that the Tangedco had reworked the bill calculation method that has proved to be disadvantageous to the consumers. Following this, a division bench of the court directed the government to file its counter.

While inaugurating the corona control room centre at Tiruvottiyur zone earlier in the day, Minister Udhayakumar said that the infection rate in Chennai was gradually reducing due to the measures taken by the State government. Noting that Tamil Nadu was doing the maximum number of tests in the country, he said the government was constantly increasing its capacity to meet the requirement.

The recovery rate and the number of persons being discharged after treatment were on the rise, Udhayakumar added. The public should extend their full cooperation to bring the infection rate further down, he said, urging city residents to strictly follow social distancing and sanitisation norms.
