Girl burnt to death: 11 teams formed to nab culprits
A day after the gruesome burning of a 14 year old girl to death, HM Jayaram, IG of police, Central Zone, inspected the spot and held inquiries with parents and neighbours in the locality on Tuesday.

Later talking to media persons, he said that 11 teams have been set up to probe the case and nab the culprits behind the inhuman act.
On Tuesday, after the post-mortem results confirmed that the girl had not been sexually assaulted, Jayaram visited the Athavathur Palayam village near Somarasampettai where the incident happened. A 24-year-old male relative, who used to frequently talk with girl has been picked up for interrogation by the local police. The IG also held inquiries with him. But the cops so could not get any leads from the relative. Though police ruled out rape angle citing the post mortem they confirmed that the girl was burnt alive.
Meanwhile the IG of Police said that totally 11 teams headed by ADSP Manikandam have been formed which would fan out in different directions and accelerate the investigation process. Jayaram also said that the police have commenced inquiry in different angles in the case and to ensure that the culprits got no way to escape. He said the police department would always show zero tolerance when it comes such heinous crimes, especially against girls and women.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also ordered an inquiry and sought a report within seven days.
It may be noted that the class 9 girl from Athavathur Palayam in Somarasampettai police limit stepped outside to relieve herself around 1 pm on Monday but she failed to return home even after 3 pm. So her parents searched for the girl in different places but in vain. Meanwhile, neighbours saw the partially charred body of the girl near the old bridge in Mullikarumbur and alerted her parents and the Somarasampettai police who rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. The body was in a charred condition from head to chest and the parents confirmed the body as that of their daughter by the dress.
On information, the DIG (Tiruchy Range) Z Anne Vijaya, SP Zia Ul Haq visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. The police found an empty kerosene can and match box.
