The district collector is now working on the projects announced in the Assembly and a massive veterinary college along with an advanced centre for country chicken is to come up in Theni bordering Kerala. The other projects range from new roads and upgradation of hospitals. According to local AIADMK sources, the arterial roads connecting Theni with its towns like Chinnamannoor, Kutchanoor, Bodi and Cumbum are getting a makeover of roads and road expansion works are also in the pipeline.
“The district collector Pallavi Baldev has recently inspected the site for the proposed college and the poultry centre to come up at Veerapandi. The collector had also written to the State seeking necessary clearances for the project,” an informed animal husbandry department official said.
The project upon completion will make Theni into a hub for livestock focussing on native poultry.
Namakkal in Western Tamil Nadu is a hub for broiler chicken and Theni will be a hub for native chicken. Meanwhile, the animal husbandry officials are also elated over progress of Asia’s largest livestock centre coming up at a cost of Rs 80 crores in Thalaivasal near Salem, a brainchild of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
“We have approached the veterinary council of India seeking permission to enrol the students in the current year and the admission will start when the engineering and medical admissions start. Similarly, the construction works for massive veterinary park is progressing and every year the intake of veterinary students will be increased by 20 numbers,” Dr R Prabhakaran, former, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, who is also the nodal officer for Thalaivasal Veterinary Park and Veterinary college told DT Next.
