On Monday afternoon, the bike of a policeman had hit the bicycle of an aged man at MGR roundabout in Tiruchy city. Soon, the policeman stopped his bike in the middle of the road and slapped the old man who was seen struggling to balance himself. The policeman, however, proceeded with his bike while the old man was seen puzzled for a while and moved on.

This video footage from a CCTV camera of a nearby apartment went viral from Monday evening and the police were searching for the cop and the old man. Meanwhile, police staff in the control room verified the video and found that the policeman was Ilango, serving as a head constable of Woraiyur Law and Order Police station.

Based on the video footage, the officials conducted an inquiry with Ilango. However, Ilango reportedly told the officials that the old man had intentionally hit him and used abusive words and so he slapped the man. He also had lodged a complaint against the ‘unidentified’ old man for ‘hitting’ him.

Meanwhile, the City Commissioner of Police V Varadharaju who inquired about the incident with the officials, transferred Ilango to the AR on charges of being aggressive with an aged man while in uniform. He also urged the police personnel to behave well in public.

In the meantime, the Commissioner also asked the officials to identify the old man and to render an apology.
