Dont shield ‘guilty' cops, Oppn tears into Chief Minister Edappadi

Upping his ante against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sathankulam double death issue, Leader of Opposition MK Stalin on Monday asked the former as to what more does he intend to do to protect the guilty policemen in the murder case.

Citing media reports suggesting that the two victims were taken by police without them bearing any wounds, Stalin, in a tweet posted on his official Twitter handle said, “CCTV footages released by media confirm that Jayaraj and Bennix were taken by police without them bearing any wounds.

Should I remind the Chief Minister that the murderers ought to be booked under section 302 of IPC?” “What more do you intend to do, Chief Minister, to protect the killers of two innocent persons?” asked Stalin, with the hashtag #ArrestKillersofJayarajAndBennix and #JusticeForJayarajAndBennix.

Not content with the second NHRC petition and face mask demanding justice for the custodial deaths, DMK Women’s Wing secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi demanded an answer from the Chief Minister in connection with the suo motu case taken up by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court against the cops in Sathankulam police station.

Posting the order of the HC on her official Twitter handle, she tweeted, “The Madurai High Court, in an order in the evening, has said that the judicial magistrate was intimidated by the police. Who gave the Sathankulam police this immunity? Now, the CM has to answer. The buck stops at his doorstep. It’s his failure.”

TNCC chief seeks SIT probe

Joining the issue with his ally DMK, state Congress president KS Alagiri on Monday asked the government to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the Sathankulam double death. Alagiri said that he would charge the government with trying to help the guilty persons go scot free, if it does not order a court monitored SIT probe. Referring to the two-year CBI probe into the Thoothukudi anti-sterlite protests, Alagiri expressed apprehension that the Sathankulam double death case might also suffer a similar fate.
