Hundreds of people from Coimbatore and Erode districts, who were employed in textile firms in Tirupur, were stopped from entering the district as they did not have an e-pass on Thursday. Till Wednesday the workers were allowed to travel within the zone without e-pass.

After the exodus of guest workers from north Indian states, the textile firms managed to run with local workers sourced from Tirupur and neighbouring districts. “Our production works will be hit if workers are restricted from coming from other districts,” said a garment manufacturer.

In Tirupur as many as 41 check posts were put up to screen people coming from other districts. It was a similar situation in Erode district, where people who thronged the check post at Karungalpalayam from Namakkal were stopped and sent back early in the morning.

Villagers from Pallipalayam area in Namakkal had come in vehicles to visit shandy and for work, but were sent away by police as they did not have an e-pass.
