Condemning police brutality, which claimed the lives of two innocent traders at Sathankulam in Thoothukudi district, and demanding justice for the victims, Vikramaraja, president, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam Peramaippu, has appealed to the trading fraternity to down shutters across Tamil Nadu on Friday.

While addressing the media personnel in Tirunelveli on Thursday, Vikramaraja said it was unfortunate that both father and son became victims of police brutality in the name of inquiry, just for opening shop at Sathankulam beyond the deadline as imposed by the government as part of lockdown restrictions.
The State government should ensure that guilty be punished soon and he also demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of the victims.
The traders would offer candle lit prayers as a mark of mourning the deaths. Further, he said traders across the State would soon submit petitions in district headquarters seeking adequate protection and ensure that police should not indulge in such acts against traders.
