Meanwhile, the Kovilpatti Judicial Magistrate is presently conducting inquest at Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital.

The bench also said the district administration should make necessary arrangements for the Judicial Magistrate for inquiring.

A post-mortem examination should be carried out on the bodies after examining the witnesses. Moreover, the bench also issued instructions to the police not to be tough on people as many of them had been affected by the COVID crisis and advised the police to create awareness about protective measures against the virus among the public.

The bench also suggested that the Director General of Police (DGP) can impose directions to prevent any such occurrence in future.

Advocate seeks action

Even as the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court is seized of the issue relating to the custodial death of  a father-son duo in Sathankulam in Thoothukudi district, an advocate has sought the principal bench of the Madras High Court to take suo motu cognisance of their  death.
