The warning from the Minister comes in the wake of allegations that several private schools are making changes in quarterly and half yearly marks of Class 10 students to better their performance. Also, unconfirmed messages were being circulated in social media that some schools have asked students to write the exam again from the comfort of home to improve their scores.

Responding to a query on such irregularities, Sengottaiyan said that strict action will be taken against private schools if they tamper with the marks of students. He was speaking to reporters after inspecting a newly constructed check dam across Gunderipallam canal in Gobichettipalayam in Erode.

“The government is monitoring the private schools. Already, the mark registers of Class 10 students of private schools have been submitted to the education department. It is being scrutinised by a special officer,” he said.

Replying to a query on teachers associations demanding conduct of special exams for students from government schools who missed their quarterly and half yearly exams, Sengottaiyan reiterated that it is the duty of teachers to ensure that all students have written the exams.

“Still the government will take into consideration all these issues and efforts would be taken to set them right,” he said.
