Adding to the woes, rescheduling of exams could not be fixed by the authorities since the virus threat is looming large. A senior official from the TTRB told DT Next that the board was planning to conduct at least six examinations, including for the recruitment of block educational officers in elementary schools, for the post of lecturer in government polytechnic colleges and others.

“The most important Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), which is mandatory to get job in government and government-aided schools, was scheduled on June 27 (paper-1) and June 28 (paper-2),” he said, adding, “As it was nearly impossible to conduct both TET exams on the original dates, it was indefinitely postponed. It is unlikely to be conducted this year.” Pointing out for the TET itself have more than six lakh candidates appearing, the official said other tests to appoint PG assistants in government higher secondary schools, secondary grade assistants in middle schools and BT assistants for elementary schools have also been scheduled after July.

“However, these exams are also expected to be postponed indefinitely due to the threat,” he added. Sources from TNPSC said that more than 20 exams were lined up this year till October 2020 and only five exams have been conducted. “Exams for appointing Assistant Director of Industries and Commerce and Assistant Superintendent in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department, which was scheduled on April 25 and April 26 respectively, have been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 pandemic,” sources added.
