Tamil Nadu sees another single-day high in Covid-19 cases, death toll nears 400
30 patients succumbed to coronavirus on Saturday alone in Tamil Nadu, increasing the state's death toll to 397.

Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported 1,989 cases of fresh coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 42,687, the state Health Department said.Â
Chennai saw the highest number of COVID-19 infections at 1,487 taking the total tally to 30,444 and is followed by Chengalpattu (2,705), Tiruvallur (1,797), Kancheepuram (672), Thiruvannamalai (636) and Cuddalore (533).

The statement said 1362 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking the total to 23,409. The total number of active cases in Tamil Nadu now stands at 18,878.
A total of 17,911 samples were tested over the past 24 hours, which now total over 6.91 lakh.
The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 2,194.
