Two incidents, when people from Chennai used local addresses, were uncovered a couple of days ago. In the first incident, a mother and two daughters - 6-year-old and 8-year-old- were moved to the Vellore Medical College hospital after they tested positive. At the Madanur border check post, the woman had stated that she was a resident of Ambur and was returning from Vellore. The officials, who verified her Aadhaar card, found out that she was a resident of Mint area in Chennai.

In a similar incident, Tirupattur officials were informed of a man, who was admitted as COVID patient, in Chennai. He had identified himself as a resident of Devalapuram, near Ambur. When revenue officials headed by the Tahsildar went to the spot, they were shocked to know that the man, who was the original resident, had died three years ago. Officials realised that the patient had resorted to this ruse to enter Tirupattur district when released. Sources revealed that police at check posts only ask visitors about their places of origin and destination, which results in many from Chennai giving fictitious names and addresses based on their earlier knowledge of the town/area they plan to visit.

State imposes restriction on e-pass to 4 dists
The State has imposed some restrictions on availing e-pass to prevent people from unnecessarily traveling to high caseload districts from Madurai, sources said. Since the number of positive cases are on its continuous rise in districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur, it was decided by the government to prevent people travelling from and to these districts.
