The advantage of such weddings is that the costs have drastically come down.

Wedding planners in the city said that though clients have minimal people to attend the wedding at home, they are requesting for live streaming of the event in social media. This will reach the people, who have not attended the wedding during the lockdown.

“A few clients request only for décor and photography just to mark the occasion whereas others are demanding for live streaming and zoom party of their wedding. This has become pretty common nowadays. As only 50 people are allowed to attend a wedding, cooking is done by family members. Also, they prefer to do their makeup. So, the minimum cost for a home wedding basically falls around Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000,” said Mohan Babu S, CEO and Director of Hakuna Matata Events in Chennai. Though people are welcoming this trend, there are few who still get married at mini marriage halls. S Priyadharshini, the founder of Limited Enterprises, said that they have been receiving calls for weddings at marriage halls with limited people. “It costs at least Rs 1 lakh to 2 lakh with all their requirements for the wedding, including the rent of the hall. “It depends on the client’s budget. However, there are people who do courtyard wedding by having 50 people, which costs around Rs 4 lakh,” said Priyadharshini.

Meanwhile, BharatMatrimony has taken its next step of bringing all the wedding service at the doorstep for free of cost. “After the lockdown, there has been a 30 per cent increase in the registration on the site. So, we are providing free of cost services for arranging weddings virtually for couples who want to get married during the lockdown. This service is open to the public, not just members of BharatMatrimony. After this service reached out to the public we are expecting over 100 weddings in a month,” said Venkataramani Suresh, Chief Business Officer, Marriage services, Matrimony.com.
