The first bench comprising Chief Justice AP Sahi and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, before whom the plea moved by the trust represented by its chairman MH Jawahirullah came up for hearing, dismissed the plea on the basis that the Supreme Court was already hearing pleas in this regard.
Besides seeking for a cap on the cost in treatment in private hospitals, Jawahirullah had also sought for a direction to reserve at least 50 per cent of beds in all private hospitals for treating COVID patients.
It may be noted that a similar plea has been moved by an advocate seeking fix the maximum nominal rates per day under various heads to be charged by private hospitals and corporate multispecialty hospitals in the State.
He had submitted that several states have already issued notification fixing the maximum rates to be charged by the private hospitals considering the welfare of the public whereas the Tamil Nadu government has not issued any notification except for an announcement by Health Minister in this regard.
