It is said, S Thangaraj, a resident of Sathya Nagar near Pazhavoor in Tirunelveli district had caught a cat and reportedly killed the animal and hanged it in the cowshed behind his house and recorded it on TikTok app. He was also seen swinging the dead animal with the background score and had uploaded in the app as well as spread in the social media on May 16. As he expected, the video had many views.
At the same time, it received the wrath of the animal activists, who lodged a complaint with the police to initiate action against Thangaraj under cruelty to animal act.
Based on the complaint, the Pazhavoor police registered a case under various sections, including IPC section 429 (mischief by killing cattle) and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Section 11 (treating animals cruelly). Subsequently, the boy was arrested on Wednesday (May 20) and was released on bail.
