In addition, the distribution of tokens to the consumers will also be increased depending on the sales and crowd.

Though there was no official release from the government, a senior official from the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac), the monopoly agency to sell liquor in the State, told DT Next that at present the liquor shops were opened from 10 am to 5 pm.

“From Tuesday onwards, the shops are expected to be opened till 7 pm,” he said, adding the move to increase the timing is to just generate more money. “An internal circular from the government side has been issued to all Tasmac shops,” he said.

Stating that the introduction of the colour token system has worked well to manage the crowd, the official said that the government has also decided to distribute more tokens from the current limitation of 500.

“The number of cards distribution will be increased to 750 and it is up to the discretion of the security personnel and Tasmac salesmen of that particular shop to increase the distribution further.

However, the official said the number of tokens that should be distributed on that day would be decided by the Tasmac outlet supervisor after seeing the size of the crowd.

He said that the Tasmac has also given a new list to the government to open about 100 liquor shops in several areas of various districts, which have been declared as non-containment areas.
