Last year, the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TNTRB), the nodal agency of appointing teachers, conducted TET paper-1 and paper-2 in June with more than six lakh candidates appearing for it.

Accordingly, the secondary grade teachers, who teach Classes 1 to 5, would have to pass TET paper-1. Likewise, graduate teachers, who handle Classes 5 to 8, would have to complete TET paper-2.

However, this year, due to the coronavirus threat and extension of the total lockdown period, the notification for TET could not be issued by the TNTRB.

A senior official from the TNTRB told DT Next on Monday that conducting TET exam is a big process, which would take at least seven months from issuing of notification till the declaration of results.

“With many recruitment processes, including appointing lecturers in government polytechnic colleges, block educational officers in the elementary education department, professors in government Arts and Science colleges, PG assistants and computer instructors in schools, pending, conduct of TET won’t be possible at this point of time for the board,” he added.

Stating that conducting TET has been postponed indefinitely, the official pointed out that TET could be conducted only after completing all the pending recruiting works, which will take at least five to six months.

“We were not in a position to release a new TET schedule since it should not clash with exams conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), which will be conducted several exams, which has been postponed,” he said.
