Be it patients in quarantine, containment areas, open market or hospitals, these officers are supposed to send their reports daily to the State police chief who would in turn submit them to Radhakrishnan, so that he can bring about necessary changes and address the issues. The government had appointed four ADGP level officers for a better coordinated work to flatten the curve that is threatening engulf the entire city like a wild fire. Besides them, one DIG has been asked look after neighbouring districts of Chennai.
“We are supposed to be on the move and coordinate with various departments. We visit containment zones, hospital and labour camps. If there are any short comings, we would talk to the officials concerned – be it with civic body officials or Health department officials,” explained one of the senior officer roped in to improve the situation in the city. The officers have formed separate WhatsApp groups to network with the officials from different departments and constantly interact with each other. “We exchange information and notes to overcome the shortcomings,” the officer noted.
From home quarantined persons and containment zones to migrant workers in labour camps, the idea is to fast-track solutions for the problems faced by people in those areas, the officer added.
“We keep doing rounds. When we find gaps in arrangements, we suggest possible solutions by working in tandem with the officials from all departments,” said another IPS officer part of the special team. Apart from being on the field for inspection, the officers have regular interaction with senior bureaucrats including the Chief Secretary.
