Traders in TN to get relief from May 6
The State cabinet led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday extended the lockdown till May 17 with some relief for traders and public.

In a statement, Palaniswami said industries and business establishments can start operating from
May 6 onwards after getting due permission from the district Collectors. However, no relief in containment areas and the existing lockdown norms for schools, malls, theatres and religious places will continue without any relaxation, he said. Barber shops, beauty parlours and gyms will also be shut until further orders, the statement said.
In Chennai, the State will allow the opening of all shops including hardware, electrical appliances, mobile service centres, optical centres to remain open from morning 10 am to 5 pm. Constructions, IT and textiles units can also start working after getting due permission from the local authorities. Shops selling essential items can function between 6 am to 5 pm and restaurants can sell packed foods between 6 am to 9 pm, the statement said.
After May 6, plumbers, electricians and other independent professionals can extend their service after getting due permission from local authorities. In case of rural areas with more than 15,000 people, textile units can function with 50 per cent staff strength with necessary permission, the statement said.
