Ariyalur has 18 new cases with Koyambedu link
As many as 18 persons from Ariyalur, who returned from Chennai Koyambedu market, tested positive for COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday. The development has put the district, which was earlier in the orange zone, to the red zone.

It is said around 100 workers from Ariyalur, employed as loadmen in Koyambedu market, returned to their native places between April 28 and 30 by lorries.
Police, however, stopped them in the district’s borders and directed them to the PHC and GHs for blood screening and then on home quarantine. Of the 100 who underwent blood tests on Saturday, 19 including a four-year-old boy tested positive for the disease. Eighteen of them were returnees from Koyambedu market. All were then shifted to the Tiruchy MGMGH.
Subsequently, the family members of those who tested positive were also alerted and the Health officials have taken their blood samples for testing. With eight persons already under treatment, the number of cases in the district rose to 27 on Saturday. This has shifted Ariyalur from orange zone to the list of the red zone.
Meanwhile, one person from Perambalur, who also returned from Chennai, tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.
