COVID duty: TN police to deploy 8,500 freshers before training

The State police has decided to deploy more than 8,500 fresh recruits directly in lockdown-related bandobust duty without imparting them with the mandatory 8 months training, an official disclosed.

“The recruits will be given a brief training before being deployed but will complete their training process once they are back from COVID duty. We are using them urgently due to shortage of manpower,” a senior official explained.

Despite lockdown, the police department has decided to go ahead with its recruitment process and had asked all police training schools to get ready with corona test kits to receive over 8,500 fresh recruits by May 3 and deploy them for duties.

“As the fresh recruits are going to be deployed in COVID related curfew duties in various districts and cities, respective superintendents and Commissioners will make logistical arrangement for transporting the recruit

constables. Liaison officers should be kept ready 24 hours in advance to the movement of the recruits to respective destinations,” an order from DGP training said.

In an order issued by Karan Singha, DGP, training, all principals of police recruit schools were told to get in touch with medical authorities to arrange necessary kits for testing when the freshers reach the training facilities on Sunday morning. “There should be sufficient medial teams by 7 am on May 3 with medical kits,” the order noted.

“We have already procured medical kits and are ready to receive the fresh recruits who will be sent for bandobust duties. As per an order they will be sent to duty immediately,” a principal of a training facility told DT Next.

Each district SP has been asked to contact district Collectors to get health and sanitisation department to sanitise the entire premise before the arrival of hundreds of fresh recruits in each centre. All the recruits have also been asked to maintain social distancing besides wearing masks, gloves and use hand sanitisers.
