The Office of the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine had issued an order to engage 2,717 multipurpose male health workers (health inspector Grade-II) across the State. The prescribed qualification is Class 12 with Biology or Botany and Zoology as subjects.

The recruitment notice does not insist that the candidates should have previous experience. A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that the board exam results for Class 12 should have published by this week as per the schedule. “However, as the evaluation is yet to begin due to total shutdown, the results are delayed and is expected to be published only by June first week,” he added. As the job is only for three months – from May to July – with a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 20,000, many students say they could have applied for the job if the results were declared on time. The earnings would have been helpful for college admissions that is held in the first week of August.

“We are disappointed that we could not apply for the post,” said K Santosh, who studied at a private school at Pammal. “The earnings would have been handy for my college admissions. I missed the golden opportunity,” he added.

P Kathiravan, a Class 12 student of a government higher secondary school in Chrompet, said, “I am an NCC cadet. I got training in disaster management. It would have been the best opportunity in my life for me to serve the people in the fight against coronavirus.”

Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine K Kolandaswamy confirmed that candidates who want to apply for the temporary post should hold Class 12 completion certificate.

The School Education Department official also pointed out that the authorities have received few calls through students’ helpline seeking information about the job.
