Ration quota for May to be given from tomorrow

“Tokens for distribution of ration products will be issued at all the houses. Tokens will have details of the date and time and people should follow the details given in the token,” said the state government in a statement.

After the rapid spread of COVID-19, the state government imposed lockdown till March 31 followed by the Central government till April 14. When the state government announced the lockdown, monetary relief to the tune of Rs 1,000 per every ration card was granted along with free ration products for April.

The distribution of cash commenced on April 2 followed by the ration products. Though token system was followed earlier too there were few glitches in implementation as people crowded the PDS shops following which police were deployed to control it. Since the COVID-19 spread could not be contained, the state extended the lockdown for the second time on April 13 till April 30. When lockdown extension was announced, the state granted that the ration products for the month of May can be obtained in advance but did not mention the dates.

Following demands from public to distribute the quota of ration products for the month of May earlier, the state government announced the distribution on two days in April itself. The state had also urged people to follow social distancing while purchasing ration products and to extend cooperation to the government in its fight against COVID-19.

Every ration card holder will be entitled to get one kilogram of sugar, one kilogram of Tur dal, one litre of palm oil and rice as entitled to their card on the above days.
