Farmers welcomed the move of the administration as they feared that the accumulated paddy stocks in the DPCs, most of the them stored in the open, would lose value if moistened by summer rains.

Tamil Nadu Vivasaiygal Sangam president R Subash thanked Ranipet Collector S Divyadarshini and the Vellore Regional Manager and Chennai-based Managing Director of TNCSC (TN Civil Supplies Corporation) for this quick move. He said, “It would now ensure that paddy procurement from farmers would happen at a fast pace once space was available for new paddy arrivals in the procurement centres.” He also thanked the Collector for permitting the four regulated markets in the Kalavai area to be used as temporary godowns for the TNCSC.

Collector Divyadarshini stated that all the 42 DPCs in the district had been ordered to procure paddy from farmers immediately without delay. She called upon the farmers to use phone numbers 04172-273188, 273166 to complain of any DPC related lapses in the district. K Raja, TN Farmers Association Vellore district president lauded officialdom for the move which would result in works in DPCs being expedited as now farmers would be assured of their paddy being procured immediately.

Tamiraipakkam DPC staff suspended
