A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) told DT Next on Monday that the examinations will be conducted in one stretch with no breaks in between. He said that since the lockdown is extended till May 3, the Higher Education Department had directed the universities and colleges to remain closed till then.

Pointing out that most of the educational institutions and hostels have been identified as quarantine centres in case of emergency, the official said, “because of this it has been decided to conduct the semester examination on the day the colleges are reopened.”

According to him, about three lakh Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) engineering students from the first year to the final year of various affiliated colleges will have to appear for the final semester exams. Similarly, about two lakh polytechnic students from government, aided and self-finance institutions across the State will also take the exams, which were postponed due to lockdown.

Stating that the students were already intimated, the DOTE official said the exams will also be conducted in two sessions, morning and afternoon. “They were also informed that there will be no regular classes soon after the reopening of colleges to complete pending portions. Instead, faculties have been instructed to complete pending portions online,” he said. He said hall tickets and other queries concerning the examination will be uploaded on the DOTE website. “Hall tickets could be downloaded once the exam dates are officially notified. Students can also submit queries in connection with the examinations on the portal,” he said.
