Movement of goods vehicles exempted from restrictions: DGP

Also, these vehicles do not need a pass issued by the authorities to carry on with their operations.

A circular issued by the DGP on Thursday stated, “All unit officers are hereby informed that the movement of all types of goods vehicles, whether carrying essentials or non-essential goods, and empty goods vehicles must not be obstructed. Field level officers should not demand for passes from such goods vehicles.”

According to a senior police official, the decision was taken at the state Secretariat and Police department was issuing the order as per the direction from the government.

“In the long run, there should not be any shortage of grocery and essential items. To make sure that the supply chain is not cut, it was decided to allow goods carriers to operate without the curfew passes,” an official noted.

The officer added that that if the supply was ensured, public would not panic and would stay at home without roaming around the city looking for groceries and vegetables. Supermarkets and smaller stores in the city are fast running out of stock due to the breakage in supply chain after State borders were closed in view of the nationwide shutdown.
