The Private Cab Drivers Association from here approached the District Collector on Monday and appealed to him to initiate steps to get them EMI waiver for at least six months as their livelihood has been lost due to the shutdown owing to coronavirus scare.

The association members said the state government has declared holiday for the educational institutions and closed all the public gathering places, including cinema halls, shopping complexes where they could get bookings from the customers. The earning could be almost double during the week ends. However, duo to the shutdown, the cab drivers have lost their earning.


“Our livelihood has been lost and it would be very difficult for us to manage our families and at this juncture, we will never be able to pay the EMIs for the vehicles we bought through the banks and other financial institutions including private financiers,” said association district president Dennis Edwin.


They handed over the petition to the district collector and appealed to him to initiate steps to get them EMI waiver for six months so that it would help them from recovering the financial trouble, he said. They sought the Collector to instruct the banks and the finance firms to relax in collecting the EMIs.
