TN positive cases rise to 9 after 1 each from Kovai, Nellai, city

The 25-year-old woman from Coimbatore has been pursuing her MBA in Spain. She landed in Delhi on March 13, reached Bangalore by flight on March 15 and then proceeded to Coimbatore by train on the night of March 17. The very next day, she volunteered to admit herself at the ESI Government Hospital after exhibiting symptoms. She was immediately admitted to the isolation ward and kept under observation. The results of swab and blood samples sent to the Kings Institute in Chennai revealed her to be positive.

She has now been shifted to the intensive care unit. “She is stable and hasn’t developed complications. Three others, including her family and a call taxi driver, who came in contact with her, have been put under isolation. They haven’t shown any symptoms so far. Efforts are being made to trace others who travelled with her in the train,” an official of the Public Health Department said.

Of the two more cases reported late at night, one was a 64-year-old female from Chennai, with a travel history to California and the other, a 43-year-old male with a travel history to Dubai. The female patient is admitted to Stanley Medical College and Hospital’s isolation ward, while the Dubai patient is under observation at Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital.

The Stanley patient had come to the city around a week ago and was staying in Porur. She developed symptoms on March 20 and went to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and from there was referred to Stanley Medical College where her samples were taken.

She tested positive on Sunday. Two more suspected cases are at the isolation ward at Stanley Medical College. Officials from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said that the patient has co-morbid conditions and both patients are stable.
