It may be noted that the legislator had raised a revolt against the government, following which government whip RKR Anantharaman submitted a memorandum to the Speaker requesting him to disqualify Dhanavelou under Anti-Defection Act.
The Speaker sent notice to Dhanavelou who appeared before him twice and sought more time.
When he appeared before the Speaker on March 16, Sivakolundhu gave him two-day time and asked him to appear on March 19.
Accordingly, Dhanavelou appeared before the Speaker with a mask and hand gloves to protect the spread of COVID-19 and sought two more weeks’ time to present his case as his advocates could not come to Puducherry from Chennai in the wake of coronavirus scare.
The Speaker sent him back stating that he will consider the request and inform him.
