Duraimurugan resigns as DMK Treasurer, set to become General Secretary

Senior DMK leader and former Minister Duraimurugan today resigned from the post of party Treasurer following his decision to contest for the post of General Secretary at the Party's General Council on March 29.

Accepting his resignation, DMK President M K Stalin, in a statement here said the General Council meeting to be held on March 29 would elect the new General Secretary and also the Treasurer of the party.

He said Duraimurugan has resigned from the post after he wished to contest for the post of General Secretary and he has accepted it.

He said the General Council would elect the General Secretary and the Treasurer and asked all the members to attend the meeting without fail.

The General Secretary post fell vacant after the demise of senior leader K Anbazhagan, who held the post for 43 years, and Duraimurugan was all set to be elected to the post unanimously on March 29.

For the post of Treasurer, a post earlier held by Mr Stalin before being elevated as the DMK President and later by Mr Duraimurugan, the names of senior leaders, including E V Velu, T R Baalu and I Periasamy were doing the rounds and a final decision would be known on March 29.
