The facility will come up at a cost of Rs 327 crore. Besides, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation for five development projects at a cost of Rs 340.86 crore and subsequently inaugurated 45 various development works at a cost of Rs 14 crore.

Welfare assistance to the tune of Rs 64 crore was extended to over 23,000 beneficiaries through various schemes on the occasion, sources said.

While addressing the function, the Chief Minister took pride, saying that the State government made big strides in departments of health and medicine, education and several others, but Opposition party leader MK Stalin is searching to find any fault with the government.

The Opposition could even search with a magnifying lens to find any fault with the State government, but they would never be able to find any such thing.

Until 2011, a total of 1,945 seats existed in Government Medical Colleges across Tamil Nadu, but under the regime of the late Jayalalithaa, six more such medical colleges were opened, taking the total medical seats to 2,800. With the nod from the Centre, Tamil Nadu managed to get 350 more additional seats last year. Above all, the Centre approved 11 more Government Medical Colleges to come up in a year in the state.

Taking pride, Palaniswami said each of the 10 Government Hospitals in parts of Tamil Nadu was allotted Rs 20 crore and provided life-saving medical apparatus such as linear accelerator to treat patients diagnosed with cancer and PET scans to five GHs to detect cancer.

Madurai AIIMS will be like Delhi: CM

The much-awaited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Hospital, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid foundation here last year, will be the equivalent of AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi, according to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
After landing at the airport here on Saturday, ahead of the foundation-laying ceremony for the government medical college in Dindigul, the Chief Minister addressed the public at Kappalur, saying that Madurai is fortunate to have the AIIMS Hospital and the needy could avail of quality medical services and surgical treatments free of cost.
Further, he said works would commence soon for the dream project. The facility is aimed at rendering medical services to the needy, especially the poor. Further, Palaniswami said benefits of schemes launched by the late J Jayalalithaa, former chief minister and AIADMK supremo, had been taken to the beneficiaries in a prompt manner. Moreover, the Chief Minister vowed that a situation would be created to ensure poverty-free Tamil Nadu.
