A division bench, comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice Krishnan Ramasamy before whom the plea moved by one Saravanan from Villupuram camp up, sought the reply from the state government.

The petitioner had contended that in the recent recruitment to Group 2A, Group 4 and Village Administrative Officers, the involvement of TNPSC officials at the higher level in the scam is evident.

He further noted that based on the complaint, the CB-CID sleuths arrested a few people in this connection and found that the candidates involved had used pens with evaporative ink to mark answers which were subsequently corrected by corrupt officials. Through this, the CB-CID was merely trying to shield those who had cheated in the exams, the petitioner said.

Also, on contending that TNPSC has been bogged by such malpractices and scams for the past 10 years and those arrested have stated the involvement of higher officials in the scam, he also claimed that the present probe by the CB-CID is an eyewash and hence it is imperative that a CBI probe is ordered in the scam. Especially with clear-cut involvement of politicians and officials at the higher levels in the scam, a CBI probe is a must, he stated. It may be noted that the DMK has already moved a plea seeking CBI probe into the scam. The DMK in its plea had contended that higher officials, who are involved in this scam are allowed to go scot free, while lower-level TNPSC officials are arrested and remanded.
