The tourists appealed to the Indian Embassy to help them return at the earliest. “We received a call from Indian embassy officials informing about the mandatory 15-day quarantine in the ship. They assured us of providing quality food of Indian cuisine and required medicine to the tourists. Also the food has now been served on time,” said Saranya Rengaraj, daughter of a couple from Coimbatore who have been stranded in the ship.
Most of the Indian tourists on board the ship are senior citizens. They had earlier raised concern over the quality of food. “Indian embassy officials visited the tourists in the ship and assured of taking better care of all. Still, our immediate request is to at least shift the tourists to a different place from the infected ship, as longer stay will make everyone vulnerable to infection,” she added.
Of the 18 tourists from Tamil Nadu, an engineer from Chennai is suspected to have contracted coronavirus and has been shifted to a hospital in the city of Alexandria. More than 150 tourists, including many from the US, France, Spain and other countries are on the ship, which has now been docked in Nile, near the city of Luxor in Egypt. The Indian tourists left the country on February 27 and were supposed to return on Sunday.
