The prasadam stall at Srirangam Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple was reduced to ashes in a major fire early on Monday. The entire prasadam, which was being prepared for the devotees, was also destroyed in the fire. The temple bhattars and employees doused the fire.

According to temple sources, there is a prasadam stall located at Garudalwar sannidhi on the Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple premises from where the prasadam for the special poojas, which are regularly held, would be distributed among the devotees.

The stall used to prepare puliyodarai (tamarind rice), curd rice, pongal, vadai, murukku, adhirasam and laddu for the distribution among the devotees present for the poojas.

The stall used to be closed when the temple main door is closed. On Sunday, the prasadam stall workers closed the stall around 9 pm.

It is said that the temple had scheduled Vishwaroopa darshan on Monday at 5 am. Based on the schedule, the temple bhattars and the employees came to the premises around 4 am and opened the main door for the subsequent special event.

When they were involved with the preparatory works, they were shocked to see the prasadam stall at Garudalvar sannidhi engulfed in fire.

The shocked bhattars and the temple employees ran to the spot and doused the fire after a few hours and the entire prasadam stall was reduced to ashes while the smoke engulfed the entire mandapam.

Soon, the employees suspended the power supply to the venue. Fortunately, the e-hundi and ATM kiosk situated adjacent to the stall escaped without any damage after the fire was completely doused.

On information, the Srirangam police rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry.
