Foundation for Theni law college buildings laid 

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday laid foundation stone for government law college in Theni, to be established at the cost of Rs 89 crore.

“The number of applicants for government law colleges are increasing every year. To provide law education for economically and socially backward students at low cost, government announced construction of three new law colleges in Salem, Namakkal and Theni. As announced, the foundation stone for Theni law college was laid,” said Chief Minister Palaniswami after laying foundation stone through video conferencing.


The Chief Minister on July 7 last year, announced construction of government law colleges, under section 110 of Tamil Nadu Assembly Rules. As announced, first year classes for three-year and five-year law courses have commenced with 80 students at a rented building in a private school in Dindigul-Kumuli Main Road.


For the purpose of constructing a permanent building for the law college, government identified 5.66 hectares of land in Thappugundu village in Theni district. The building for the law college would be constructed on three floors, including the ground floor with 26 rooms and with the seating capacity of 400 students.


The college building will have conference halls, video conferencing halls, rest rooms, mock courts of international standards and a high-speed internet zone along with a modern library.


Stone laid for canal renovation


The Chief Minister also laid foundation stone for renovating Kattalai canal, which is part of Cauvery basin in Karur district, at the cost of Rs 335.5 crore. By implementing the scheme, 20,185 acres of farmlands in Karur district and 3,589 acres of farmlands in Tiruchy district would be benefitted.


Chief Minister Palaniswami also laid foundation stone for various other developmental projects, including check dams at the cost of Rs 209.95 crore, across the state.

Parivendar meets CM regarding Railway project

Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK) chief Parivendar on Friday urged the state government to extend cooperation to bring Railway projects in his Perambalur constituency.
“Ariyalur-Perambalur-Thuraiyur and Namakkal railway project is the dream project for people of Perambalur district for more than 50 years. When I inquired with the Railway officials at the Centre, they informed me that the survey for the project has been completed, but asked me to come with the recommendation of the state government for the project,” said Parivendar, while addressing reporters at the Secretariat.
Parivendar met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in his office and urged him to cooperate for the Railway projects in his constituency. Parivendar also submitted a petition to the Chief Minister with six demands, all concerned with his constituency.
Member of Parliament Parivendar further urged the state government to set up a textile park in Padalur and Irur villages, in Perambalur districts, located on Chennai-Tiruchy national highways, to construct Railway overbridge in Kulithalai-Manaparai national highways, to setup Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Lalgudi, in Tiruchy district and Kulithalai in Karur district, to desilt Panjapatti late and to fill the lake with excess Cauvery water.
“Panjapatti lake is one of the largest lakes in the locality and if the lake is filled with excess Cauvery water the villages surrounding the area will receive water from the lake and people can manage without problem of water scarcity in summer,” he said.
