Sarbanga lift irrigation project to be completed in 11 months

Speaking about the project, the CM said, “In the second phase, the government has been considering of extending the project to Namakkal. Also the lakes which fall under the panchayat unions will be brought under the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out renovation works.”


Pointing out that implementing these projects will improve agriculture and drinking water scenario, the CM said that the AIADMK government has been realizing the dream of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by implementing its promises without cheating people.


Meanwhile, Chief Minister Palaniswami exuded confidence that the Cauvery-Godavari River linking project will be implemented jointly with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.


“The linking of Cauvery-Godavari is my dream project. The Centre has been preparing a detailed project report (DPR) and once implemented, Tamil Nadu will get 200 tmc of water,” he said.


Stating that the project will benefit Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, the CM said that the water will be taken to dry tanks under lift irrigation under the project. Next, the CM said that an appointment had been sought with Telangana Chief Minister to discuss on the project. “The water drawn through the project will be stored in Karur check dam to be supplied to arid areas in Tiruchy, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts through canals being dug for Rs 14,000 crores,” the CM said.


On the kudimaramathu scheme, the CM said that works got over in 1513 lakes in the first phase at Rs 100 crore, 1439 lakes at Rs 329 crore in the second phase and in 949 lakes in 2019-2010 at Rs 500 crores. “However DMK leader MK Stalin has been making false accusations of irregularities in the implementation of the project,” he said.
