“It has been decided to discuss with Karnataka government to extend the metro train service of that state till Hosur in Krishnagiri district for the convenience of people travelling from here to the neighbouring state,” he said.

Stating that metro train works were now underway in Karnataka, Palaniswami said, “I am planning to hold talks to extend the metro train services, which has been proposed till Bommasandra Industrial Estate in Karnataka. If extended, it would benefit people of Tamil Nadu to reach Karnataka,” he said.

Chief Minister Palaniswami mooted the idea while laying the foundation stone for building a new government medical college in Krishnagiri district. The college to be built at an estimate of Rs 348 crores will be spread over an area of 25 acres at Bolupalli village on Chennai-Bengaluru National Highways in Krishnagiri.

Students are likely to be admitted from next year if the construction work gets completed by the start of 2021. Of the total cost, the Central government bears 60 per cent and the remaining is borne by thestate government.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone, the Chief Minister said that 2,000 medical seats have been created newly in Tamil Nadu with the coming up of 11 new government medical colleges.

“Our government has been following the footsteps of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in increasing the number of medical seats by setting up more colleges,” he said.

Palaniswami also listed out various welfare programmes, including the social security projects, being implemented by the government to improve the standard of people in villages and women in particular.
