The State Board Class 12 exam began on an easy note as many students termed the language paper, especially Tamil, was very easy and comfortable to attend. This year, the examinations assume significance as over eight lakh students, who are appearing for the exams, will be tested on a new syllabus for the first time. In the city, over 47,000 students have appeared for the exams. 

“Two marks, four marks and six marks questions were simple and easy to attend. There was no out of syllabus questions,” P Santosh Kumar, a Class 12 student at a private school in Pammal, said.

“We thought the Tamil paper would be tough since the new syllabus was not that easy,” P Vani, a Class 12 government school student in Pallavaram, said. A senior official from the Directorate of Examination department said that no malpractices were reported on day one. 

More than 4,000 flying squad members were deployed to monitor the exams across the State, the official said “The question papers were kept in more than 200 rooms with tight security,” he said adding that CCTV cameras were installed in these strong rooms. After a gap of two days, students will be facing the English exam on March 5.

62 inmates write exam in Puzhal

As many 62 prisoners, including 5 women inmates, wrote the first Class 12 board exam at the Puzhal prison on Monday. All those who wrote the exam were transported to Puzhal jail, which is the common exam centre. 
Those writing exams, includes 17 male and 3 female prisoners from Puzhal, 13 from Coimbatore jail, 6 from Cuddalore prison, 5 each from Palayamkottai and Salem prisons, 4 each from Madurai and Vellore jails, 3 from Tiruchy prison along with 2 female prisoners from Vellore. 
Last year, 41 prisoners from different jails across the State had appeared for the Class 12 examinations out of which 35 passed.
