Madurai

Presiding over the foundation-laying ceremony for the Government Medical College in Ramanathapuram, he said in January last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation for the AIIMS Hospital in Madurai.

The Centre is very keen on the ambitious project and taking steps for all possible help and mobilising the best resources in India.

Moreover, JAICA, the funding agency, is also offering its assistance to bring the much-awaited facility. During the Prime Minister’s schedule last year in Madurai, three super-specialty blocks were dedicated to people of Tamil Nadu, the minister recalled.

With 11 new Government Medical Colleges coming up in Tamil Nadu, the strength would now go up to 37 such colleges in two or three years. Besides, 23 private medical colleges have been functioning in Tamil Nadu.

In May 2019, when the NDA Government was voted to power for the second consecutive term, the Prime Minister had announced that 75 new medical colleges would be established in aspirational districts by 2022 to mark the completion of 75 years of Independence.

Modi wanted to deliver a ‘New India’ to all people. He was desirous of restoring smiles on the total of 1.35 billion people living with dreams in India and alleviate everybody’s suffering. Every child should have adequate healthcare, education, nutrition facility and every woman should be adequately protected.

Further, the Union Minister hailed Tamil Nadu after considering the parameters such as infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, female-male ratio and fertility ratio and said the State achieved much better than other states.

However, he’s little bit concerned about the maternal mortality and appealed to the doctors to prevent any death of pregnant woman and it should be their target.

If any pregnant woman died, it would bring shame on the part of health system of the country. Every cause of such death needs to be investigated to make reforms accordingly in the programme. Hence, Tamil Nadu should take it up as a challenge to prevent such incidents and ensure safe delivery.

Under the universal immunisation programme, almost a dozen vaccines would be administered to the child free of cost. But still, 20 or 30 per cent of the targeted group under this scheme had been left out. Hence, he appealed to cover all children under this scheme.

Ramnad good example of communal harmony: OPS

With people of all religions and beliefs from this region, Ramanathapuram serves an example of communal harmony.

The historic Ramanathapuram has a special significance to Tamil Nadu as stalwarts like Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar and APJ Abdul Kalam, former President, have brought laurels to the district, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said during the foundation-laying ceremony for the Government Medical College in Ramanathapuram on Sunday.

Over the last nine years, there’s been a phenomenal growth in medical aid and health sector development in Tamil Nadu as several new hospitals, pharmacies and primary health centres have come up.

Several people, especially the poor, had been availing of medical and surgical treatments under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. Under this scheme, as many as 33, 09,116 patients had availed of the medical services and surgical treatments at a cost of Rs 5, 989 crore from 2011-12 to February 10, 2020.

Further, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “I feel happy to say that the AIIMS Hospital project will soon be over and render medical services to the needy.”  Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation for the AIIMS Hospital in Madurai on January 27, 2019.

The Prime Minister, who won laurels from US President  Donald Trump, has created history in Tamil Nadu, by sanctioning 11 medical colleges to the state in a single year.

This record would forever be engraved in the annals of Tamil Nadu’s history.
