“Kamal Haasan knows cinema, but does not know how the state government functions. He has no knowledge about the functioning of individual departments. Tamil Nadu for his best governance has received the most number of awards amongst the states in the entire country,” said Palaniswami, when asked about the comments of Kamal that the state is lagging in various parameters and no new welfare schemes are implemented in the state.
After laying the foundation stone of Government Medical College Hospital in Virudhunagar, Chief Minister while addressing reporters at Madurai airport said that he was happy to lay foundation stone for two Government Medical College Hospitals in Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram districts. “On behalf of people of Tamil Nadu, I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Harsha Vardhan for granting permission to setup Government Medical Colleges in 11 districts,” said Palaniswami.
When asked about the ongoing protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and steps taken by the government to stop the protests, Chief Minister replied that he and Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar made it clear in the Assembly that National Population Register (NPR) was introduced for the first time in 2003 when the BJP was in power and the DMK was in the alliance. In 2010, NPR was implemented throughout the country and DMK was in alliance with the Central government.
However, for the Census 2020, the Centre has asked the state government to take NPR and three new aspects such as language, place of birth of parents and identity cards such as Aadhaar, ration card and voter ID card were added this year. Centre has also made it clear that producing the certificates is voluntary, said Palaniswami. He further said that the state will follow the steps of neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in CAA issue.
