“I am not satisfied with Chief Minister’s reply. He (Chief Minister) did not respond to my demands and so we are staging walkout from the Assembly,” said Stalin, while speaking at the ‘Zero Hour’ debate on Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

After coming out of the Assembly, Stalin, while addressing the reporters, said, “Speaker P Dhanapal quoted an Assembly rule and prevented them from debating on CAA issue. His reference was wrong, and we should have been allowed to debate on CAA.”

Earlier, after the ‘Question Hour’, Stalin while speaking about CAA said, “Like other states, Tamil Nadu government should also pass a resolution against CAA in the Assembly. The state government should understand the sentiments of the protesting people.”He also said that the protesters staged agitations in a peaceful manner, but police unleashed violence on the protesters. Though the protesters have been released state government should withdraw the cases against them.

The Speaker intervened and said that the subject was debated already in the previous session and said that it cannot be debated for the second time in this session. Speaker quoted rule 173 (e) of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Rules and refused to entertain Stalin, which was one of the reasons for thewalkout.

Abu Backer, during his address, said that six states have already passed resolutions against CAA and the state government too should pass a similar resolution. “CAA is discriminatory in nature and it does not allow us (Muslims) to live in the country,” said Abu Backer.

Meanwhile, before the Assembly session Thiruvadanai MLA Karunas and Thamimun Ansari submitted a petition to Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan urging the government to pass a special resolution against CAA.
