The petition was filed by Jegadeesan, Stanislas and Ravi Jacob alleging that on March 11, 2018, four churches located in Koodal Pudur and Sikkandar Chavadi in Madurai were attacked by Hindu extremist groups.

Even after submitting videos of attack to police officials at Koodalpudur police limit, they didn’t file a FIR but issued a CSR, petitioner alleged. “They were attacked by District Secretary of Hindu Munnani Venkatesh, Satish Babu and Dinesh. Even after identifying the persons, police officials didn’t name them in FIR when they finally registered the case on March 14, 2018,” petition read. Countering this, police officials denied the allegations and submitted that after due inquiry, they filed a case under sections of IPC and arrested the accused.

Recording the submissions, SHRC acting Chairperson D Jayachandran said, “SI Murugan and Inspector Manivannan had violated human rights of 3 victims. They are entitled to receive compensation of Rs 60,000 (Rs 20,000 each) for the violation. The government shall recover the amount from the two police officials.”
