Teachers, HMs to undergo Centre’s NISHTA prog

The prominent features of this training include modules on pedagogy, activity-based and joyful learning sessions, educational games and quizzes, motivational interactions, team building, preparation of school-based assessment including the development of skills for making higher-order thinking questions.

This training will be conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu School Education Department.

A senior official from Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Training Institute told DT Next that the training programme for the elementary teachers will improve learning outcomes of students. “Teachers become alert and responsive to the social, emotional and psychological needs of students as first level counsellors,” he said adding that teachers would be trained to use art as pedagogy leading to increased creativity and innovation among students.

Stating that teachers would be given coaching to develop and strengthen personal-social qualities of students for their holistic development, the official said that teachers would be taught activity based learning and move away from rote learning to competency based learning.

Claiming that nearly about 1 lakh elementary teachers from government and government aided schools would be benefited in this one-month training programme, he said, after the training session certificates would be distributed to all the participants.

On the headmaster’s training, the official said the training for school heads would make them aware of new initiatives in school education. “Transformation of the heads of schools into providing academic and administrative leadership for the schools for fostering new initiatives,” he said adding, about 5,000 headmasters would be benefited by the programme.
