MNM to launch 55-week state tour from Feb 21, eyeing 2021 polls

Kamal and other office-bearers will be launching their 55-week long state-wide tour from February 21 to meet the people, MNM vice president Dr R Mahendran has said. He said that Kamal will continue to meet the people amid his film commitments.

With an eye set on the 2021 Assembly polls, Kamal also signed up for director Shankar’s Indian 2 and Thalaivan Irukkindran produced by Lyca.

“The state-wide tour is only to meet people and we are charting out a programme. At the time of the election, it will be very difficult to cover all the places. That is why we are trying to find out a solution by charting out a programme so that he is able to cover all the places across the state,” AG Maurya, general secretary (Organisation), MNM said. He also added that the tour would help the party to familiarise with local issues and to come out with a solution for that.

Kamal’s state-wide tour is a preparation for the next year’s state polls after boycotting the rural local body polls held in December last year. Ever since the launch of his party in February 2018, Kamal was focusing on the development of villages and even adopted villages to be developed as model villages. Besides, he also took part in the Grama Sabha meetings to stress its importance. But, he announced his party’s decision to boycott the local body polls stating that his party’s goal is to come to power in the state in 2021.

Though Kamal’s party failed to win even a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections and the 22 Assembly bypolls, it made some impressive gains in terms of vote share. The MNM finished third in 12 Lok Sabha seats and polled 3.72 per cent votes. The party polled over one lakh votes in six seats. However, the party could poll more in the urban and semi-urban areas than in the rural areas.
